I was at Rosebud Pier yesterday morning, and from my vantage point it was obvious that the brave souls on surfboards and kayaks were doing an amazing job. It is only now, after seeing the footage on the news last night that I can fully understand what incredible job they did.

You paddled your hearts out at daybreak and were just dots on the horizon for us on the pier. We tried to follow what was happening with the help of photographers and cameramen. The helicopters, buzzing like bees round honey, at the bow of The Queen gave us an indication that something was happening but we were not sure.

To all of you out on the bay yesterday morning – I admire you. I admire your bravery in fronting that enormous vessel and I admire your determination. You represented everyone of us on the pier and all those who could not be there yesterday morning.

THANK YOU
